The Trends and Prospects of the Medical Sociology in Korea Focusing on the National Journal Articles from 2002-2020

Abstract
This article critically reviews the existing medical sociology literature in Korea.
Since the medical sociology was founded in the 1940s~1950s in the US, the concepts and perspectives were introduced in Korea in the 1960s. However, the medical sociology in Korea was developed centring on public health partly due to the strong state initiatives by the developmental state until 1980s. After the 1997 economic crisis, study on the medical sociology in Korea became popular within sociology discipline and throughout 2000s the topics, methodologies, perspectives were varied. Now medical sociology is still growing sub-subject in sociology in Korea and expands its inter-discipline characters in social sciences such as gender, psychology, area studies, international studies and etc
